Revisiting your greatest hits
Oh, hi friends!
What’s something you’re proud of doing?
Maybe it happened last week. Last year. Too long ago to remember the date.
But that — that thing that still makes you proud to this day.
You could always try that again.
“This assumption of quality based on the amount of time it takes to create a work—whether it’s a painting, book, film, play, or even a meal—presents a serious flaw in how we value art both financially and socially.”
Oh. Oh. So I’m very into this essay “In Favor of Speed: Write Fast, Fix Later” by Mateo Askaripour because the speed thing has definitely affected how I view my own writing (and the writing of others). He says that if something is created too quickly, its perceived value is typically lower — have you ever felt that?
One more from the essay: “The idea that you need to spend years on papercuts and perspiration just to get a draft down—not a final version—is as ridiculous as all of the other expected behaviors for artists.”
Just because something comes fast doesn’t mean it's not worthy of your attention.
They Built a Miniature House During Quarantine
Deeply impressed and basically in shock over this tiny house shared on Twitter, complete with functioning electricity, a game room, wee Eames chairs, even a boiler room! Creativity knows no bounds, even when stuck indoors. Thought you might get a kick out of it, too.
