Maintaining momentum
Oh, hi friends!
The trick is to just…not stop.
If you’re writing an article, don’t stop until you finish the paragraph (or, better yet, the draft).
If you’re reading an addictive book, don’t put it down.
If you meet a kindred spirit, don’t say ‘Hope we stay in touch!’ and then never speak again.

It’s funny, but I keep imagining how satisfied those writers must have felt when their books were finally finished. Or maybe *if* they were satisfied?
File This Under “Plant Those Seeds and Hope for the Best”
Here’s a note I got from Brass Ring reader Kyle Jackson yesterday that I have to share with you:
Our songwriter friend Thad Cockrell from Nashville put out his latest album during the lockdown. Obviously nothing happened as it got lost in the chaos of the Spring.
Months later Jimmy Fallon is walking through a hardware store in NYC and he likes the song on the radio. Jimmy uses Shazam to find out that it is some guy named Thad Cockrell.
This song Swinging becomes Jimmy’s anthem for the lockdown. The refrain from the song is, “if we’re gonna go down, we’re gonna go down swinging” and it is about never giving up the fight and the dream.
At the same time, over New Year’s, Thad wrote a long email to his label and manager saying he was going to give up his esteemed but not profitable career in music and get a “real job” in 2021.
He calls his manager a couple days later to talk over the new plans/new career and they say, let’s not talk about that because you’re playing the Tonight Show. Thad cried for an hour.
So Thad is playing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday. (NBC at 11:35pm ET!)
