On plants and projects
Oh, hi friends!
So I’m not very good with plants.
People have given me plants over the years. They died. I bought one or two at the Trader Joe’s checkout line. They also died.
But a few plants that came into my life as congratulation gifts for Do It For Yourself have, somehow, managed to hang on.
One group of succulents grew so large I recently bought individual pots for them.
Then there was the air plant. It looked like a snake. A very dry, sad snake. I got the very good plant identifier app PictureThis and discovered that, yes, it was indeed dry and sad.
So I removed all the rocks in its vase. I saw they were crowding its roots. The thing couldn’t get any sun. It was being squished to death.
Now he’s free and looks happier.
And that’s what I’m thinking about right now, about plants or projects and maybe just today.
If you’re crowded, go on your own.
If you’re wilting, get yourself water.
And if you’re not getting what you need, remove what’s in your way.
Love this. Say it every day.
How to Write a Better Screenplay
I’m really into this extension called ScreenplaySubs, which allows you to watch a movie and see its screenplay scroll by next to it at the same time. It lets you see director and actor choices and how they translate words from the page. You can give it a try here (free!). (h/t Melissa Smith-Wilkinson)
Reminds me of one of my favorite Instagram accounts, @Screenplayed, which scrolls scripts under powerful scenes from movies. Obsessed.

Thanks, as always, for reading.
