If you feel like you have nothing new to say
Oh, hi friends!
I saw a tweet last night from Louis Peitzman that I can’t stop thinking about.
He said, “I am having a really hard time keeping in touch with pretty much everyone because I genuinely don’t feel like I have anything compelling to offer right now.” (And followed that up with, “Anyway it’s chill.”)
As someone who’s abandoned text threads and had a difficult time writing follow-up emails, ohhh yes, I can relate! Can you?
Yet maybe we don’t have to offer anything “compelling” to each other right now.
And maybe that same feeling can extend to creating things, too.
It’s hard to continue making work when it doesn’t feel compelling enough, or big enough to break through the moment.
But maybe it’s not up to you to judge what is compelling.
Maybe all you have to do is compel yourself to say (or make) something, send it out into the world, and know that you have tried.

Do You Remember This 106–Year-Old Who Danced with the Obamas?
Colin just reminded me of this absolutely joyful video from 2016. Virginia McLaurin was born in Cheraw, South Carolina in 1909 and visited the Obamas in 2016 for Black History Month. And they danced!!! I just smiled so big rewatching this video and thought you might, too.
And guess what? “Grandma Virginia” is still going strong — she celebrated her 111th birthday last March.
