Let’s make it through one more day
Oh, hi friends!
Even if they’re dormant right now, your energy and hope will find you again.
Bookmark them for now.
In the meantime, can you call a friend?
You might think you know what you’ll talk about — because what else is there to talk about? — but you also might hang up feeling better than when you called.
Can you take a walk?
Even if you’re sleep-deprived or have a headache, at least for those few minutes you won’t be looking at your phone.
Can you rediscover a favorite song?
I realized I hadn’t listened to music all week. It helps. Play something you’ve always loved.
Don’t forget you need rest, too.
“Those only are happy (I thought) who have their minds fixed on some object other than their own happiness; on the happiness of others, on the improvement of mankind, even on some art or pursuit, followed not as a means, but as itself an ideal end.”
This idea of how to achieve happiness is from philosopher John Stuart Mill, quoted by writer Tom Vanderbilt in an interview with Gretchen Rubin (got all that?!). I found it beautifully simple. PS — I always get a lot of value and good advice from Gretchen Rubin’s newsletter.
Here’s a new app to help cut through the online noise — it’s called Listory and it gathers newsletters that might interest you. (Brass Ring Daily is on it!) On its homepage you can find stories based on how often they’ve been curated by other newsletters — which is actually the way I read most things online. After I see something blurbed in three newsletters, I finally click. Thought you might find it useful if you’re trying to be online but not online-online, if you know what I mean.
Do you like these daily emails? Please share with a friend!
You can also support my work by checking out my new motivational journal, Do It For Yourself, designed to guide you through your creative and work projects.
Thanks, as always, for reading.
Love, Kara
