Take what you need today
Oh, hi friends!
Everything froze.
Everything got thrown off.
Another day and night glued to the phone, the TV, the fear.
Another morning with a headache.
And here we are.
We can’t guard against the freeze, the getting thrown off, the fear.
But maybe we can find our own boundaries, what we need to get by, and hold fast to those for as long as we can.
Take what you need today. Take whatever you need today.
Maybe that will quiet our minds, slow our racing hearts, and allow us to make it to tomorrow.
“If you’re going to sit down at a desk with a problem and do nothing else, you’ve got to get a reward for that. And the reward is, the alarm goes off, and you’re done. You get up and walk away and go have some cookies and milk. You’re done.”
Here's one distraction: Last week I enjoyed this Tim Ferriss podcast with Jerry Seinfeld on his “systems, routines, and methods for success.” Here, he’s talking about how the best part of writing is knowing when you’re going to finish (15 minutes, one hour, two hours later) and then getting there. I could definitely use that 'done' feeling and some cookies and milk right about now.
Hug the branch a little tighter, friends. It's gonna be OK.
