Can we all agree this week is weird
Oh, hi friends!
Does anyone else feel like they’re encased in mud?
Maybe this is because we had a break, but that break probably looked and felt a little too adjacent to our non-break lives — our rest of the year lives — and now we are back to where we were in December.
Nothing’s changed. Or rather, nothing changes unless we change.
Not the calendar, not the season, not the ball drop or the midnight chime.
But how do we change if the world is swirling? Doesn’t it feel safer to continue doing what feels comfortable — to stay in control of something in the chaos?
It does.
Yet I am thinking of so many friends, some whom I’ve met and others I never will, all nudging forward their own reinventions.
Grad school. Law school. A novel-in-progress. A new corporate job. Returning to freelance life. Divorce. A move home, a move abroad, a move two neighborhoods away.
These people are thrilling to watch. Because they aren’t frozen; they’re churning toward shore.
So maybe if going back to December feels a little too familiar, a little too boring, a little too muddy, perhaps it’s time for something new enough that it’s still fuzzy around the edges.
It’s impossible to overestimate how exciting your future can be.
“In his masterpiece the Mona Lisa, Leonardo da Vinci applied 30 layers of paint that were no thicker than a single human hair. Can you imagine the patience and concentration that required? I’m going to propose that you be inspired by his approach as you carry out your big projects in the coming year. I think you will have the potential to create at least one labor of love that’s monumentally subtle and soulful.”
Forgive my self-indulgence, but this was my horoscope for the week — and yours, too, if you’re a Libra — but let’s just say we all have that potential, too.
One tiny layer at a time.
Of course I loved Soul. How could I not?! Creative process! Reaching for the brass ring! Animated cat! Denying it would go against the bedrock of my very, well, soul. You might like it too if you haven’t already seen it. On Disney+. Warning: You will feel feelings.
