Let's streak through the end of the year
Oh, hi friends!
Last year at this time I wrote about starting a run streak from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day.
The goal was one mile a day — that’s it!
I hadn’t been running much and knew I would be traveling, and it might snow or rain, or there would be some days where I simply wouldn’t want to do it.
But because I’m much better at doing something daily than only sometimes, I did it — and learned a lot about starting habits so small you can’t fail (and wrote about it, too!).
This year, I’m not traveling, I have fewer commitments, and I could certainly use something to boost my mood and anchor my days. So the streak starts again!
As I wrote last year, the distance isn’t the point.
The point is to keep your momentum.
The point is to keep your word to yourself.
The point is to keep going.
If you’d like to join me and commit to a Thanksgiving to New Year’s streak, I would love that (and love to hear what you want to do). Maybe you’d also like to run or walk or bike a mile, or write 50 words a day, or read 10 pages, or complete one DuoLingo lesson, or eat dinner by candlelight every night or answer one prompt from Do It For Yourself every day (I’m going to do that one, too!!).
Choose a habit and then make it as small and easily accomplished as possible.
Let’s streak, together, and beeline straight outta 2020.
The point is, simply, to keep going.
“It doesn’t matter, you can be friends with anybody, you can be family with anybody.”
For the past four years, I’ve loved reading updates about Jamal Hinton and Wanda Dench, who became friends and started celebrating Thanksgiving together after she accidentally texted him. It was the rare completely feel-good story!! This year they had a small dinner and remembered Wanda’s husband, who died of coronavirus. On this unconventional Thanksgiving in this difficult year, their friendship feels like a beautiful reminder of finding connection and a bit of joy in unlikely places.
I’ll See You Soon
That’s a live photo of me on the couch, post-pie, watching The Crown. I’ll see you back in your inbox on Monday. But if you get lonely, say hi and I’ll shoot you an exclamation mark-laden response, possibly with a baby animal photo?!

Thanks, as always, for reading.
