The 10 ideas exercise
Oh, hi friends!
Packing up my apartment last month meant revisiting old notebooks and scraps of papers and inspirational quotes scribbled on notecards.
And I found a few legal pads filled with one exercise: 10 ideas.
James Altucher says that to become an “idea machine” you need to write down 10 ideas every day. Business ideas, article ideas, joke ideas, whatever you want.
I took this seriously and wrote down “10 ideas” every morning for months back in 2016.
Here are a few old idea lists I found:
10 ideas for Mad Men spinoffs
10 media companies to start with friends
10 things that are shorter than Kevin Hart
10 feature article ideas
10 ideas for fictional running gear
10 things that are round
I remember this exercise made me feel more creative, and ideas came easier later in the day, too.
Ten ideas. Nothing to lose.
“Bit by bit, putting it together…”
A mantra for today, this week, this month, this year.
Have I Got a Show For You!
Do you want a joyful 25-minute escape? Yes? OK, here you go! Dash & Lily is a new Netflix series set in New York during Christmas. Ostensibly, it’s about two lovelorn 17-year-olds who communicate to each other through a red notebook, but my favorite part is seeing the city all lit up during the holidays, and spotting a who’s-who of Broadway and Off-Broadway actors. At first I thought, “This is cutesy and silly!” but then I thought “What’s wrong with cutesy and silly?”
