What to do if you can’t concentrate
Oh, hi friends!
What do you do when you can’t concentrate — or, alternatively, can only concentrate on one thing?
You can say, “Well, I’ve already spent five hours obsessing. Those are sunk costs. Can’t get them back. Why not just add more to them?”
You can say, “It’s too hard to do anything else. Everything will be different soon. Let me have this.”
You can say, “Three for them, one for me.” That is, three hours of intense concentration on one thing and one hour for you. (Your ratio may vary.)
You can do or say or act in many different ways this week. All are valid. All make sense.
But ask yourself: What might make you feel a tiny bit better in the moment you’re in right now?
Because the week is going to be made up of a million little moments. Let's try to make the best of them, one by one.
Creeping on Some Leaves
New York’s two-week stretch of not seeing the sun was finally broken on Saturday! Here’s a bit of the North Woods in Central Park, where we saw not one, but two barred owls completely unfazed by dozens of people taking photos and oohing and aahing. (Follow Manhattan Bird Alert @BirdCentralPark for soothing and wholesome bird updates.)
You know that great feeling of seeing really talented and hard-working people share their gifts with the world? Well, it’s a bonus when you’re related to the person! My brother Eric stars and is truly terrific in the new character-driven vampire film Blood From Stone, written and directed by Geoff Ryan. It was the perfect escapist scare for Halloween. Available to buy or rent on Amazon Prime now! Go brother go!!
And I hope you can go celebrate the good news of someone in your own life today :)
