Alrighty, let's get BACK to it!
Oh, hi friends!
Hard now, worth it later.
My friend Jane Frye said this to me a few months ago. We were talking about moving to a new apartment (or a new city/state/country) and she said “I fully support moving. Hard now, worth it later.”
So that’s the mantra I kept running in my head. Last week was so busy: Craigslist people picking up furniture from my apartment all day and night, a million errands, lots of coordinating, the implosion of routines and work schedules (I owe everyone everything right now — I’m sorry!), I even stopped writing this newsletter!
But I kept repeating it again and again: Hard now, worth it later.
And isn’t that how it goes with most major changes or projects? Maybe you’re still stuck on the hard part. Maybe you need a reminder that all your effort will be worth it.
Because, as always, Jane was right. The dust has settled, we’re almost completely unpacked, the chaos is becoming a distant memory, and new adventures await.
The hard things are almost always worth it.
Go for them.
Oh yes! Remember the journal?? This tweet warmed my little heart.
BTW, even though we are still having backordering and shipping issues — long story, will share soon — it is now available (cheap!) at Target online and in stores!
3 Things That Made Moving So Much Easier
I joked on Instagram that I want to become a “moving influencer” but now I do feel very passionate about items that can make moving efficient and as stress-free as possible! (All can be found on non-Amazon sites btw.)
Here are giant reusable storage tote bag things that are perfect for clothes (or taking in laundry). Colin gets credit for finding these.
Here is a giant bundle of packing paper sheets. (Um, during my last move I was ripping out tiny pages from old New York magazines at 2 a.m. to gently swaddle around my glassware. That was…not efficient.)
And here is a 20-pack of medium-sized moving boxes. Again, during my last move I was duct-taping five-year-old FreshDirect boxes in the middle of the night and losing sleep over whether they would bust open and scatter my books on the cold hard New York City streets. Young Kara was…let's just say she didn't know then what she knows now.
Don’t overlook tools that can help you!
