I don’t like asking for things, but
Oh, hi friends!
Can you please give me 10 minutes?
This might seem like a big ask because everything is speeding up lately. (I know it’s not just me…)
But I would love, on this first day of the 10th month of the year, if you could find 10 minutes.
And if you could take that 10 minutes and put it toward a project or dream or goal that’s in your sights.
Ten minutes is less than half an episode of Seinfeld. It’s three pop songs. One-sixth of one hour.
It’s kind of a lot of time and no time at all. I don’t take it lightly.
But here’s the thing: It counts.
If you could apply 10 minutes toward something important to you, that would make me incredibly happy today (which just so happens to be my birthday!).
And knowing you're 10 minutes deeper into your project is the best gift of all.
“What I want,” I said, digging into our side of spinach, “is to feel about writing the way I feel about working out or showering — disgusting in my body if if I haven’t done it all day.”
OK, Laura Belgray hooked me with the title of her latest story: I’m a Lazy Person Who Rejects 99% of Self-Help Tips. Here’s the One Trick that Kept Me Productive, Even in 2020. But she really got me with the above line — because getting to that feeling of must do is like the holy grail.
She details how she was derailed in writing her long-talked-about book, and how she finally found a habit that worked for her. (Hint: It involves a trigger and that wonderful wonder drug: iced coffee.) Worth your time.
Money In Your Ears
My podcast consumption has peaks and valleys, but one thing stays the same: I love listening to podcasts around a theme.
I had my Broadway theme, my motivational “dude-bro” theme, my running and fitness theme. Feeling surrounded by the same stories and ideas just naturally integrates those themes into your life. So here’s my latest: money!
I rounded up the best personal finance podcasts over on NextAdvisor. I particularly liked Afford Anything with Paula Pant’s episode “Timeless financial lessons from my grandma” and, of course, all of Suze Orman’s Women & Money episodes. But all of them will give you a little clarity and inspiration.
