My 98-year-old grandpa did it again
Oh, hi friends!
My grandpa wanted something.
He wanted his local newspaper to write a story about me and Do It For Yourself.
So he went down to their office with my journal to see if he could speak to someone.
The office was closed.
He came back home and had another thought: Why not write a letter to the editor?
So he did.
And you know what happened? The editor read his letter, sent it to a reporter, who then called my parents (and then interviewed me), and finally this article ran on Friday in The Hanford Sentinel. (Grandpa was very, very happy!)
My own journal is supposed to motivate people, but I’m feeling pretty inspired by my 98-year-old grandpa trying — and trying again.
This is just a small, personal example, but I hope you can you take that energy into exploring a new avenue if one feels closed off right now, or following up with someone if you don’t feel heard, or simply picking up a pen and sending a message out into the world.
Who knows what could happen?
“That’s what great leaders do. They inspire, reveal and empower others to become great leaders, too.”
I feel this so deeply! Avivah Wittenberg-Cox talked about love and care in the workplace, where we’re going in the future, and more in my latest story for TED ideas about six things we can learn from how women leaders have handled the pandemic.
I'm a Bird Brain
To be honest, it’s after midnight — bless you if you think I actually write these newsletters in the morning!! — but I can’t think of anything to put in this catch-all space, so I googled “cute bird” and this video came up. And you know what, this video DELIVERS. These are very cute birds.
(Also, please remind me of this moment in the future — nothing is ever going to be perfect but we can still try to finish and send it out and hope for the best, you know? HAVE A SOLID MONDAY, FRIEND. You can do it.)
Do you like these daily emails? Please share with a friend!
You can also support my work by checking out my new motivational journal, Do It For Yourself, designed to guide you through your creative and work projects.
Thanks, as always, for reading.
Love, Kara
