Every day for six months
Oh, hi friends!
I’ve flossed almost every day since mid-March.
I’ve also eaten oatmeal for breakfast. (I used to have a shake with a frozen banana and protein powder and no, it wasn’t nearly as gross as it sounds! It was good! I swear! Believe me!)
But these aren’t little pats on the back for myself. (They are plenty of good habits I've dropped altogether.)
Yet these tiny actions are proof that new habits can come out of long, strange interruptions to our schedules. They can come out of the need to control something, anything.
It’s such a silly thing, right?
Floss! Oatmeal!
Yet just like that, one small daily action — one choice — becomes routine.
Even if other parts of our lives are sacrificed to change, imagine what can be nudged into those empty places.
Pay attention to your new good habits. They’re already starting.
“A great sign of growth and learning is to be embarrassed by your old work.”
Whoa. Does this hit anyone else in the gut?
I appreciate that it flips the idea of being haunted by our past imperfections into believing that noticing the imperfections is a good thing. A growth thing.

Love this motivational and uplifting TEDx talk by Brass Ring reader Dr. Ronda Beaman!
I love the photos people are sharing of Do It For Yourself on Instagram and through text and email. Makes me so happy to see this journal "in the wild" — especially with wild animals! Here's our Suzy, cozying up to her little corner.
