Oh, hi friends!
Oh, hi September!
This month doesn’t have to be like the last one.
Or the one before it.
You can move, adapt, begin something, finish something, cast something out of your life forever.
You can start a 30-day streak or give yourself a quitting time of 5:30 every day.
You can unfollow negative people or follow up with that friend you haven’t seen since March.
Lean in to the freshness.
Today, you’re starting over.
“I wasn’t aiming to save any particular amount. Honestly, I was a little scared to find out how much I was spending. I simply wanted to give myself the gift of a low ‘balance due’ line and see how it felt.”
Laura Belgray stopped shopping for a year — and saved enough to pay for her wedding. YES.
I love working with Laura (I edited her story for NextAdvisor!) and her all-or-nothing rule hits home for me.
As Gretchen Rubin would say, there are abstainer and there are moderators. I’m an abstainer, someone who’d rather always or never do something, but nothing in between. So, too, was Samuel Johnson, who once said, “Abstinence is as easy to me as temperance would be difficult.” Ha!
But the all-or-nothing rule can be applied to your work life or projects, too.
You’re either in or you’re out.
Oh, It’s Lemur Tuesday Again
Actually, I don’t know what day I usually post lemurs but I had to share these senior lemurs. They didn't get as many 'likes' as they cute baby lemurs but just look at them! Hanging out in their retirement community together in their thirties!
Accounts like @dukelemurcenter give me so much joy during the day when I find myself scrolling. We are what we take in! (So…I’m 80% lemur.)
Do you like these daily emails? Please share with a friend!
You can also support my work by checking out my motivational journal Do It For Yourself, coming out in the world on September 8.
Thanks, as always, for reading.
Love, Kara
