Those days where you do the most
Oh, hi friends!
When you’ve got somewhere to go, you always get the most done.
Flight’s at 5pm, so at 2pm you’re emailing an assignment, packing, taking out the trash, washing your hair, texting four people, closing loops.
Theater starts at 8pm (*sob*), so you barrel through 40 emails before dashing to the train.
When you’ve got something to do, you can get a lot done, too.
Phone call’s coming in at 2pm, so you wrap up whatever you’re doing by 1:45 (or, in my daredevil case, 1:59!).
That’s your stopping point, so you work towards it.
Our stopping points look different these days — no flights, no theater — but you can still choose a middle or end to your work day.
If you feel a little adrift or aren’t sure where your time is going each day, maybe you don’t need to do more.
Maybe you need more stopping points.
“We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements in life, when all that we need to make us really happy is something to be enthusiastic about.”
— English novelist Charles Kingsley (h/t Kyle Jackson)
Well, Charles, when I think about it, my happiest moments usually *are* when my enthusiasm is highest!
That creates a little formula*:
Something that makes you enthusiastic + your energy = a bit more happiness
*For entertainment purposes only, this is not mathematically proven
This Baby Koala Is Doing It For Himself
On Monday I told you about a not-so-secret secret project. Now I want to wave and give a big YAHOO to these people who also pre-ordered my motivational Do It For Yourself: Brother Eric C., Susan H., Sarah E., Kathi H., Dom, Daryl C., AJ F., Gloria P, Caitlin K., Aransas S., Ravi D., Selina Z., Dorie C., Richard B., Arash S., Jack A., Eleanor G., Sara B., Sierra R., Stephanie V., Marisa C., Krista L., McKenzie K., Nichole T., Danielle F., Caroline L., Alana F., Krista L., Aunt Denise G., Allison M., Maelyn L., Lynette S., and Colin, who I forgot in the first round (!) — and the many people who offered words of support or who haven’t said so but bought a copy anyway — I’m so grateful to you all and I hope you find value in this creative project.
Also, something happened that made me tear up: A few Brass Ring readers offered to buy a copy for someone who might not have discretionary income right now. BOWLED. OVER. Maybe I’ll call this “Do It For a Stranger”? Please reach out if you’re unable to purchase a journal right now but could use a little extra motivation, and I will do my best to get you one. Thank YOU!!!
Do you like these daily emails? Please share with a friend!
You can also support my work by pre-ordering my motivational journal Do It For Yourself, coming out in the world on September 8.
Thanks, as always, for reading.
Love, Kara
