A super secret project only you know about
Oh, hi friends!
So, this is a little strange, but…I have a book coming out? In three weeks??
Here’s where I would insert the screaming emoji, if Mailchimp allowed it.
It’s a motivational journal called Do It For Yourself, featuring inspiring designs from Tessa Forrest of @Subliming.jpg and prompts written by me about the topics we usually talk about in Brass Ring Daily: Getting going, overcoming setbacks, following through, and seeking closure.
This has been in the making for over a year and it’s finally being published on September 8 by Abrams Books!
The publication process taught me many things:
A great editor is invaluable (hi, Madeline!)
How fulfilling it can be to work on one project for months, not just days or weeks
How scary it is to wait…and wait…for a project to be born
I worked really hard on making this journal useful, to (hopefully) clarify your perspective about your project or habits, and to encourage you to keep trying.
So I hope you find it valuable. I would be honored if you did.
You can find more details and pre-order right here and below. (If you do pre-order, please let me know because I'd love to thank you in an upcoming issue of Brass Ring Daily!)
And THANK YOU in advance for your support.
This newsletter and you friends feed my creative life and daily life more than you know.
“It’s my fourth week now. I feel tired and sore, but it’s the good type of tired and sore that I really missed and enjoy. I’m hitting my intervals and going fast, and feeling good again.”
David Duchovny heard the former Paralympian Rudy Garcia-Tolson needed a place to train and practice — so he’s loaning him his private pool in Malibu. (h/t Charlotte M!)
I love this story, not only because I’m a diehard X-Files fan, and because it’s nice to give something and expect nothing in return, but mostly because of how this swimmer is slowly working up toward his goal. No coach, no sponsors, no guarantees. But all heart.
How to Make Your Google Drive Beautiful
All those gray folders. All that wasted space. Google Drive isn't a pleasant place to spend time, and yet all I do is hang out there.
So! I organized my Google Drive yesterday, including files that date back to college — yes, it took a very long time — and discovered this little trick: You can change the color of folders! When you're in Drive, right click on a folder and go to “Change color.”
A small thing, yes, but when it affects something you stare at for hours every week, a small thing feels like a big win.
Do you like these daily emails? Please share with a friend!
Or pre-order my motivational journal Do It For Yourself, coming out in the world on September 8.
Thanks, as always, for reading.
Love, Kara
