When you're thisclose to being finished
Oh, hi friends!
What’s the difference between done and finished?
Done means it’s out of your hands. It's a good feeling!
Finished, though, has a different polish. You've taken things all the way.
Quick example from my own life: I put off posting my Maisel musical on Instagram for a month, but I finally posted one song last week. Progress!
I was going to post another yesterday when I wondered, Wait, should I add captions? Maybe more people will watch it. Maybe it’ll make it a little better. And besides, all the videos *I* like have captions.
Everything was already done. I could have pressed “post” and turned off my computer.
But I realized it was no longer finished.
Sooo, of course I looked up how to add captions, downloaded a program, figured it out, and now whoops it’s two a.m. — but it’s finished. (If you find a typo, please don't tell me.)
This might seem highly specific and trivial, but the same thing happens with every project. A point where you know you can stop and be OK — or choose to take it all the way.
A few more hours might not be the difference between good and great, but it can give you pride in knowing that you tried.
And those hours are always worth it.
