A note for the weekend
Oh, hi friends!
A few years ago I walked into the restaurant No. 7 in Fort Greene. I was early. That should have been the first sign this night would be memorable. I’m never early.
I met a man who was tall and wearing a button-down shirt and glasses. We hugged hello. We talked about theater and our families and editing — he was an editor, too — and Phantom Thread, which he had already seen more than once. He smiled with his nice eyes behind those glasses and asked lots of questions and listened to my answers. Then he walked me home and I thought, “Oh. So that’s where he’s been all this time. A mile down the road in Brooklyn.”
Today is his birthday.
I’m very grateful to two extraordinary and lovely people who raised the most wonderful person I’ve ever met. And it’s funny that this newsletter is mainly about creativity and working and reaching for your biggest goals, yet I don’t talk enough about the fact that having the right people in your life — the most supportive and loving people — is worth more than any productivity tip or hack.
That’s what I wish for you. I hope you can spend the holiday weekend with your favorite people or thinking about them. Hold them close. And I'll see you and your goals back here on Monday.
