You can come back
Oh, hi friends!
Took a few days off from the newsletter last week. I didn’t have digestible thoughts to share. But I missed writing it. Truly!
What kind of work do you miss the most right now?
What kind of work feeds you?
Sometimes it goes missing. That’s OK.
You can take a step towards it today.
One of my favorite rules of thumb is “more often than not.”
Do the work more often than not.
Exercise more often than not.
Eat healthy more often than not.
Continue more often than not.
Care more often than not.
Chose “more often” over “not” and see what adds up over time.
Visited Central Park this weekend. Happy to report it’s as beautiful as ever.
“Musical comedy comes out when there isn't quite enough time.”
Theater lyricist and composer Amanda Green said this during a workshop I took over Zoom last week, hosted by the wonderful organization Maestra. (Upcoming free and donation-based workshops can be found here!)
She was talking about how when characters are in crunch time, they reveal things they don’t necessarily mean to reveal. Or when they can’t control something about their situation, they act out with big feelings or uncomfortable truths. That can make comedy.
It also reminded me that most good work happens when there isn’t quite enough time, too.
If you’re looking for a sweet and quiet movie right now, can I suggest The Bookshop? It stars Emily Mortimer and my favorite Bill Nighy and it’s like a nice little literary lullaby and it’s streaming on Amazon Prime and Hulu. The best part? It made me want to keep reading books. Real books!
Do you like these daily emails? Please share with a friend!
Thanks, as always, for reading.
Love, Kara
