Um, is this cell phone thing normal?
Oh, hi friends!!
My brother Eric laughed the other day when I posted one of his text messages on Instagram.
He could not believe I have him saved in my phone with his first and last name. (Meanwhile, he has me saved as “Sissy.”)
Am I normal? Or is he normal?
An informal poll was revealing. Many of my friends save their immediate family members and loved ones in their phones under nicknames, or first name only. Some people throw in emojis.
As for me? Well, everyone gets a first and last name, except for parents (“Mom and Dad” and grandparents). It feels more organized, though I suppose it’s a little formal.
But I could change it all tomorrow, you know? Just because I’ve done something one way for 15 years doesn’t mean I can’t go a little wild and crazy (and then immediately change all the names back when it feels too weird).
It’s good to know there's another option. Keeps you nimble, keeps you thinking.
What can you change today?
“‘People slip into flow on a daily basis, and they shut it down,’ says Diane Allen. ‘They might say, ‘It’s unrealistic, it’s not practical, or I don’t have time for that.’’ But if flow leads you to your best self, you’re more likely to experience fulfillment, solve problems, overcome fear, and influence others.”
Oh yes, flow state. Do you know it well? It’s that glorious moment when time slips away and you’re fully immersed in one activity.
Over on TED Ideas, I talked to Diane Allen — who gave this excellent TEDx Talk on finding your flow state — about how to find your flow state and get back into it more often. One of my biggest takeaways, apart from learning how to find it, was realizing how important it actually is. That feeling is never a waste of time.
Pulitzer Day Is the Best Day
The musical A Strange Loop won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama yesterday! It’s only the 10th musical in history to win the prize. It’s one of the most exciting and innovative musicals I’ve ever seen — and you can listen to the cast recording on Spotify.
