The 102-year-old with a to-do list
Oh, hi friends!!
And hello, Monday, our old friend! Last week I wrote about reinventing Mondays — turning them into a day you can actually enjoy.
Now I'm thinking…what about a Monday ritual?
Some offices have recurring Wednesday meetings or bagel Fridays, but why not do something every Monday that’s for you?
Just for you.
Maybe today’s the day you make blueberry waffles, for no reason other than you want them.
Or you spend the first hour of the day reading something made out of paper (a book, a play, a magazine)!
Maybe you turn tonight into Marinara Monday and make your grandma’s sauce.
Or you spend seven minutes manifesting ~ooh~ your future in the most positive terms you can muster.
Having something to look forward to never hurts.
What’s your Monday?
“I’ve been through so many things…To cope with this virus, and all that’s going on, I would tell people to not get stressed about planning far ahead. You can’t do it. A long time ago, I started making a list every morning of what I had to do. It was the only thing I could control, and I stuck to it, you hear me?
Those lists are similar day-to-day: Check in on family with her iPad, do Zoom video calls with her kids, their kids, and their kids’ kids. Make meals and bake desserts to leave on the front porch for her son who lives nearby. She cooked for 25 people in February. She calls that preparing ‘a little something.’”
Lucille Ellson is 102 years old and has lived through, well, a lot. And look! She makes a list every morning and sticks to it! I love Lucille! (h/t Aegean Chan Burnett)
I Chose My Monday Ritual and It's Alpaca Monday
Here is an alpaca walking around a neighborhood. I wish I could come across an alpaca walking around a neighborhood. Let’s all look out for one today!
PS — If you'd like some friendly accountability and a fresh start every morning, please join me and my brother Eric for the 10:11 Club — every weekday morning at 10:11am ET (or whatever time zone you're in!), we're starting our day together and working toward one goal until noon. Join us anytime!
Do you like these daily emails? Please share with a friend!
Thanks, as always, for reading.
