Travel regrets
Oh, hi friends!!
What is the hardest thing you’ve had to do so far in 2020?
Think on it for a second.
OK.
Look where you are now. Still here, right?
You did something hard, and you’re still here.
I hope your entire day can be fueled by that memory.
Sunrise from my cross-country Amtrak ride many moons ago.
“I would be satisfied with any flight, any route, any itinerary.”
Staying close to home got me thinking about traveling — namely, all those trips I wish I had taken. I’ve been lucky enough to go a number of places, but can still be a huge travel procrastinator, overthinking the when, where, and how.
I wrote about this feeling — and why I’m so excited to travel again, when the time is right — for CNN Travel: 'What was I waiting for?' A procrastinator faces a lifetime of travel regrets.
If you’ve also been letting your credit card points gather dust, you might relate.
Attn: Writers — You can get hours of your life back?!
When you interview someone, it’s often necessary to go back and have a transcription of the entire conversation (especially if you’re doing a Q&A or need a quote check.
When I was an intern at The Daily Beast, oh, 12 years ago, that was one of my first tasks: Listening to other people’s interviews and writing down every word. (Actually a great way to learn how to interview someone!)
But it is a very time-consuming task. A lot of journalists swear by Rev.com — you upload an audio file and can choose between an AI-generated transcript or an even more accurate one generated by a real live human. There's a trade-off: you have to pay money for something you have the ability to do yourself, but the time saved is incredible.
My friend Danielle Friedman, who’s working on a book about the history of women’s exercise culture, has been interviewing dozens of people and raves about another service called Trint. It's a subscription, and probably best for someone handling a lot of interviews. Just wanted to share in case this is helpful!
PS — If you'd like some friendly accountability and a fresh start every morning, please join me and my brother Eric for the 10:11 Club — every weekday morning at 10:11am ET (or whatever time zone you're in!), we're starting our day together and working toward one goal until noon. We'd love to start our morning with you!

Thanks, as always, for reading.
