Your incredible disappearing habits
Oh, hi friends!
Habits rarely crop up all of a sudden.
Usually, they’re the force of some greater action—a New Year's resolution, maybe; a pact with a friend; a necessary change in your daily routine (gonna cut sugar! gonna work out more! gonna do creative stuff!). They take work to create.
But they can also creep away slowly, until you no longer remember how vital they were in your life.
Some of my creeping and disappearing habits: a daily exercise routine (mainly running), meal prepping (to cut down on decision-making), a consistent writing practice (although I suppose this newsletter has taken up that mantle).
Just reminding myself how important these were at one time—how they can provide structure and stability and help me to not be hangry—makes me want to revisit them, maybe bring them back into the fold.
Which habits have crept out of your life lately?
And do you want to crack open the door and let them return?

A Bit of an Interview You Should Read to the End
“I encourage people to remember you are playing the long game. Things rarely happen overnight or instantly,” she says. She saw the merits of asking the right questions. “If I keep asking, why aren’t I doing what I want? What’s wrong with me, you will burn yourself out very quickly,” she advises. “But instead, think about the bigger, longer view. How do you prepare and make yourself stick for the long game of making a career for yourself. What are you going to do for ten years?”
This great interview with theater director Leigh Silverman reminded me that it’s a long, long game we are all playing. And that's a good thing.
