Your immediate reaction
Oh, hi friends!
When you’re approached with something unfamiliar—a task, a new person, an opportunity—how do you react?
Are you coming from a place of no?
Or are you coming from a place of yes?
If you’re falling to one side of the pendulum, you can always swing the other way.
You’ve just finished the film “Wildlife.” What is coming next?
Nothing. Just “Girls & Boys,” and waiting for the next great thing, whatever it is.
*** Loved this excerpt from a conversation with Carey Mulligan, who recently starred in the monologue show Girls & Boys. (Ninety minutes. Only her holding down the stage. She’s the best!)
But here, the interviewer wants to know, What’s next, what’s next, what’s next. We always want to know what's next. And Carey simply knows she must wait, and grab the next great thing when she sees it.
Do You Love Podcasts?
Everyone loves podcasts! You know why? They give you back the one thing you need most in life: time. You can listen to ‘em during a commute, while you’re scrubbing the bathtub, when you’re grocery shopping. You can feel like you’re putting good things into your brain while doing the most brainless tasks.
I haven’t been running as much, so haven’t been listening to as many, but here are some recommendations, and a great newsletter for those who really want to get into the nitty-gritty of the business. I mean…should I start a podcast? Hmm…
Royal Court Playwright’s Podcast featuring interviews with Abi Morgan, David Hare, Alice Birch, and more. I want to listen to them all! (h/t Will Brumley)
Oprah’s Master Class. I mean. It’s Oprah.
The Dave Chang Show. Especially loved the one with Rian Johnson and Karina Longworth. (h/t Selina Zhong)
Akimbo, a podcast by Seth Godin, one of my all-time favorites.
Design Matters with Debbie Millman. She’s a genius!
Plus, Hot Pod is a weekly newsletter about the podcasting biz. I’m into it. (h/t Jane Frye)
