Am I honoring this pact?
Oh, hi friends!
This newsletter is late! Your sweaty commute is over (for those who live on the East Coast). But somehow you’ve opened it and a strange thing has happened.
I’m here and you’re all the way over there and yet we’ve created this pact that we are going to spend at least 90 seconds together. (Fewer if you’re a fast reader.)
Because when you put something out into the world that you want someone else to consume, you’re saying: Join me. Spend time with me. I’ll make it worth your while.
But are you? Making it worth their while?
Am I? I don’t take it lightly—the fact that we’re in a pact, that you’re committing your time. And I’m thinking more about what that means in the context of other work, too.
Every email you send, every article you publish, every meeting you attend…what if they treated this pact of creator-and-consumer as the most significant relationship in the world? If time is our most valuable resource, then isn’t how you spend your time the most important decision you’ll make all day?
It’s something I’m spending a little time thinking about.

Every day at 3pm, I want a donut. Today I will get one.
“Be undeniable.”
This was the advice screenwriter and Billions co-creator Brian Koppelman gave to an aspiring writer on his Instagram Stories the other day. You just have to write something undeniably great. That’s all! Now go do it.
(Brian’s podcast The Moment is wonderful, by the way. He talks to creative folks about pivotal moments that changed their careers.)
Two Jobs I Would Apply For If I Was Looking!
Are you as obsessed with TED Talks as I am? TED Ideas is hiring a part-time assistant editor! Get it! (h/t Daryl Chen)
And here’s a sweet job tip from a friend (please don’t repost on Facebook groups, Twitter, etc., but feel free to send along to qualified folks).
Love movies? And tater tots? Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg needs a new publicist! I'm moving on from my role as PR Director and they're looking for someone who has about 2-5 years of direct public relations/media relations/communications experience working within lifestyle, film, hospitality, or nonprofit worlds, and who wants more autonomy and room for creativity. There are some community relations involved and the freedom to really make this role what you'd like it to be. Event experience is a plus, but not required. No official job posting yet, but I'm helping them get a head start. If you or someone you know is interested, email me a resume, salary requirements, a few words about yourself and why Nitehawk: alexaharrison@outlook.com
