Oh, hi friends!
What even is today?
Oh, it’s Monday? Oh, hi Monday!
Monday requires simplicity. And it doesn’t get simpler than this:
Do it and it will be done!
The comedian Josh Gondelman said this on Twitter last week during one of his quick pep talks to people who need them—and I can’t stop thinking about it.
Because when you’re stalling and swimming in place and debating between this or that or this other thing, sometimes all you need to hear is…
Do it and it will be done!
“It” can be the phone call you haven’t made, the story you haven’t written (so many stories!), the clothes you haven’t returned (seriously all it takes is dropping them in the mailbox!!), the forms you have to fill out (so many invoices!!!), whatever!
Do it and it will be done!
“But one pattern I’ve noticed in people who do scary things is that once they see the roadblocks in their way, they take a specific kind of action to begin to break them down — a micro-action. Having figured out the big goal, they focus on the next, smallest action that will get them a bit closer to it.”
Speaking of doing it…Behavior Gap is one of the newsletters I open religiously (takes two minutes to read!). You can find all his articles here—including this great story about a McKinsey consultant turned cookbook author.
All hail micro-actions!
NBC News is hiring! Ready? They’re looking for a Data Journalist, a Data Editor, and a News Editor. (BTW, have you noticed how many jobs now have “data” in the title—good skill to develop if I had a time machine…and an affinity for math.) Interested people can email the wonderful Anna Brand directly at anna.brand@nbcuni.com and tell her I sent you!
Pssst, wanna create your own news/lifestyle digital series? Do you shoot, write, edit, and produce—or know someone who does? WABC-TV is hiring a Multimedia Producer. Apply here! (h/t Brandon Nelson)
Oh, One More Thing!
Do you wish you had a closer relationship with your parents, siblings, friends, or co-workers? My latest story for TED Ideas is about how you can create better connections. (My favorite bit of advice comes from Jane Fonda—she mails books to her friends. Sweet!)
Do you like these daily emails? Please share with a friend!
Thanks, as always, for reading.
Love, Kara
