Freedom
Oh, hi friends!
Are you at work? You might be at work. Do you have BBQ plans tomorrow? Do you love the emptiness of the city during a holiday? Or are you hanging out in the woods? Do you hate fireworks? Do you want to be alone? Are you hanging out with friends and family for five days?
Whatever you’re doing, I hope you’re doing it to the nth degree.
I was going to take my own advice (a first!) and let this newsletter slumber until Monday, but actually, I have an ask for you…
What makes you feel free?
Respond to me with your answer (and first name and where you’re from if you’d like)! I’d love to include your thoughts in Brass Ring this week. I’m very curious to hear and know others will be as well—plus, you’d give my brain a break from thinking about work and creativity and productivity.
By the way, my answer is…running with no destination in mind, writing in a flow state, and the second the lights go down in a theater and you have no idea what you’re about to see. To me, those moments are pure freedom.
So lemme know…what makes you feel free?
I went to the gorgeous Getty Villa with my friends Cindy and Ravi during last week’s trip to California, and was struck by this quote at the entrance. A mirror of their creator's hopes, dreams and frustrations.
And here's the villa itself! Free to visit with a reservation!
PS — Two of my latest stories!
I talked with Neil deGrasse Tyson about his first job as a dog walker and how that affected his future career as an astrophysicist for MONEY.
And if you're traveling for the holiday, here’s how to actually get work done on an airplane for The Points Guy. (Although I just took a red-eye on Sunday and broke every one of my own rules, so...)
