Finding the time
Oh, hi friends!
Time is our most valuable resource, right?
We always want to hack our days. Manipulate our work processes. Get more stuff done to speed up. Meditate more to slow down. All to get more time.
Well, here’s one way: de-commit.
If you’re stretched too thin, you have a choice. You can say no. Even if you already said yes. (And as I’ve said before, people will forgive you.)
Because as my brother said to me yesterday, “Sometimes committing to other people is a way of procrastinating from committing to yourself.”
That one cut deep.
If you need it, you can de-commit to others with purpose—and recommit to yourself.
“I know now that trying to mold yourself into something you're not by diluting your uniqueness is the surest way to ensure you won't work the way you hope to. I don't just mean that you won't get hired. You will lose that opportunity to discover for yourself what kind of work you want to do — what moves you, what you see.”

So you see how I shortened that entire arc to one sentence? It actually took years of learning the craft, researching, writing on the side, entering contests, writing more, entering more contests, and finally getting a manager. Success takes time, but getting there doesn’t make for catchy headlines. (h/t Elen Aghekyan)
