Let’s get to good enough
Oh, hi friends!
There’s value in making something great.
And there’s value in making something good.
But don’t underestimate the value in making something good enough.
Good enough also means finished.
Maybe one day it’ll be great.
Maybe it always only needs to be good enough.
Either way, right now good enough sounds pretty good to me.
“Will I write a book review and thus not write a chapter of my own book? Will I give a talk to some students, and therefore not read a bedtime story to my son? Will I participate in the panel discussion instead of having a conversation over dinner with my wife?” [Economist Tim Harford] recommends filtering future plans through a simple test: If I had to do this today, would I agree to it?

It’s so much easier to commit to something far away than to say no in the moment. I still fail at this all the time! But I love this flip in thinking: Would you want to do this today, when you’re just as busy as you will be two weeks from now? If not, the answer to the ask should probably be no.
Ella Fitzgerald wants you to know it’s Summertime.
PS — Remember when I asked if anyone could help a friend translate a song from his musical from English to Greek? One of you—who lives on Cyprus (!!!)—immediately reached out. Learning this made my month. So humbled and delighted by the generosity of people who help others with their creative work.
