How to undo your to-do list
Oh, hi friends!
My friend Charlotte said something brilliant last week.
We were talking about to-do lists, because that’s exactly the kind of thing that we talk about, and she said she was removing things from her calendar that she didn’t want to do.
Wait a second, I thought. WE CAN ACTUALLY REMOVE THINGS?!
(Sometimes I’m a dumb-dumb.)
Because of course we can remove things. The problem is not allowing ourselves to do it.
So I looked at my work calendar and saw two items I’ve pushed off every day for weeks: Follow up with a potential client about a story and plan a meeting with someone else.
I realized the reason I pushed them off every day was…I didn’t want to write that story. And I didn’t want to meet that person.
Both of these were completely elective events that no one was making me do, by the way. Except I kept telling myself I should. And putting them off somehow made them even more important.
So, bye-bye!
Deleting them felt oh-so-good. Try it.
These lambs are great.

How are you?
I’m great, you?
So great!
That’s…great!
These conversations are unavoidable, but really, what's the point? Can't we do better? In my latest piece for Shine, I make the case for banning the standard “I’m great” conversation and diving a little deeper. One of my favorite tips is to ask for advice from the other person—and provide something of value in return.
And I’m super excited to share news about this festival, executive produced by my friend Carlotta Brentan!
