Saying your goals out loud
Oh, hi friends!
Seven years ago, Desi Linden came in second place at the Boston Marathon—by two seconds.
Yesterday, in the worst running conditions possible—rain, wind, bitter cold—she won.
I feel like Desi's quote from before the race says it all:
“I know it’s a big thing to say out loud, but I think I’d be selling myself short if I was like, ‘Oh, I hope I podium’ or ‘I would like a PR.’ [Winning] is the thing that I’m really chasing after, so just go ahead and put it out there.”
It’s scary to lean in to your big dreams. To say them out loud. To come back after second place, fifteenth place, or not even finishing at all.
Do it anyway. Things might break your way.
“The time to give women advice is over. Women can do exactly what men can do. If anything, this year has shown that that’s absolutely the case. So I would give women and men the same advice, and that is follow your heart, follow your gut, follow your instincts.”
How CNN International Correspondent Christiane Amanpour gets it all done. (Love The Cut series on the routines and habits of successful people.)
Aretha. Carole King. Obamas. This video never fails to make me feel like a natural woman—and a million bucks.
