I gave myself another weird new rule
Oh, hi friends!
I saw a job listing the other day and the company said they abide by the “Sundown Rule,” which means you should reply to all clients by the end of the day. (Apparently, this "rule" was started by Sam Walton, the Wal-Mart man who was obsessed with same-day service.)
Hmmm.
I wondered…
What would happen if I started to abide by the Sundown Rule?
Would I make faster decisions?
Would I no longer let things linger?
Would I become overwhelmed?
And most importantly, how would I feel at sundown?
Aren't you a little curious to find out?
Let’s Mirror Our Strengths
"There seems to be less practice in our culture of connecting from a place of strength—just socially, I mean. It’s easier to connect through complaining, and then through talking about other people or through saying, ‘Oh, I didn’t sleep well.’ Or, ‘Oh, I’m so this. I’m so tired.’ Or, ‘Oh, I wish I could be like that,’ or, 'I wish I could be like you.’ And less of a culture of practicing, ‘I’m amazing. I feel amazing. How are you? I hope you do, too.’
And so that’s something I hope I can help be part of. In reconceiving, reframing the whole question of what it means to operate in the world from a place of strength without thinking that’s diminishing other people. The only way we can do that is by holding space for everyone to be in their highest light…"
Well, this one got me. I do this a lot. From this interview with One Thousand Nights and One Day composer Marisa Michelson.
OK, I’ll start. I FEEL AMAZING TODAY. I hope you do, too.
I’ve recommended this book of monologues to so many actors looking for pieces and writers looking for style inspiration. (Thanks brother, who gave it to me for my last birthday!)
Helpful. 13 acting techniques and what they mean.
On Monday I saw The Lucky Ones, a new musical at Ars Nova by The Bengsons. Super ambitious and did things I’ve never ever seen in other shows. Appreciated the brain-exploding. I’d like to start all my weeks that way.
Yes, there are still DVD rental stores in New York. Loved this. Reminded me of my childhood trolling the Blockbuster aisles.
My current random ask: I’m looking for someone who’s successful or famous that owns a new-ish Cadillac (2016 to the present) for a story. Have you seen anyone flashing their, um, headlights on Instagram or anyone come to mind? And yes, my life (and work) is strange...
And you know what? It’s Friday. Anything goes.
