The money vs. time question
Oh, hi friends!
A choice:
Would you rather have an extra $10,000 every year?
Or an extra week of time to do whatever you wanted every year?
What would you do with the money?
What would you do with the time?
Money gives you more opportunities to buy things and learn things.
Time gives you space and clarity.
So what do you need more of right now? Money, or time?
"There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”
Truth spoken by the great Maya Angelou. And I've found the untold story doesn't always take the form of a written piece. The key point is that it's untold...so far.
PS — I really loved her Super Soul Sunday podcast with—who else?—Oprah.
“There is an unfathomable amount of kindness that I have seen, and when we put our fears aside, when we connect to strangers, when we smile at the people next to us or put away our judgments, it opens up a door into an entirely different way of life.”
This TED talk came to mind yesterday during a run where I was so in my head, so down about being behind and underwater, and I thought—oh right, stop thinking about yourself. A few seconds later, I saw a guy wearing some fresh neon green sneakers—bright as a spotlight on that rainy day—and as I ran by I pointed and said “love those.” He gave me the biggest smile, and my day turned on a dime.
I included this talk (and many of my other favorites) in my latest story for TED.com. It's called "How to Be More Hopeful." Hope you find some value in it.
