Give all the things to the busy person
Oh, hi friends!
If you want to get something done, give it to a busy person.
Three people have repeated this phrase to me this week. We’ve all heard it. Lived it.
Because it’s the truth.
One “hack” for this little truth is that when I feel bored by what I’m doing, I force myself to get really really busy. Yes, I would like to sign up for this class! Write three stories a week! Have a bunch of meetings! Take that phone call! Pitch 15 stories!
Then life speeds up. And I realize I wasn’t bored. I was moving too slowly.
“Great opportunities never have ‘great opportunity’ in the subject line.”
From entrepreneur and investor Scott Belsky in Tribe of Mentors by Tim Ferriss
Boy, I've learned this the easy way and the hard way. Projects or events I thought would be career-defining have turned out to be big old flops, while random conversations have turned into amazing ongoing opportunities.
When you're debating between yes or no, all you can do is have the conversation, gather as much information as possible, and make the best decision you can with the info at hand.
Calling All Theatergoers and Theater Makers!
Look, look! Brother Eric’s in another new play. Life Brief & Glorious opens tonight at IRT Theater in the West Village. It’s a modern retelling of the events leading up to the fall of Troy, as seen through the eyes of the women responsible for holding the city together. BOOM!
Show runs through March 24—I already have tickets for Friday, March 9 at 8pm. Who’s in?! Get your tickets. Break legs, bro bro.
Also, news from my talented friend Carlotta Brentan: OnStage!—a new festival of American theater—is currently seeking submissions of full-length productions for its first edition, which will take place in January 2018 in Rome, Italy. Do you have a show that has already been produced in the U.S.? Want to showcase it in Rome? Tell us all about it. Submissions are open until March 30, and they're free! OnStage! is a sister festival to the six-year-old In Scena! Italian Theater Festival NY.
