Six words to get you through Friday
Oh, hi friends!
Today's mantra:
Protect your time — protect your sanity.
Protect your time — protect your sanity.
Protect your time — protect your sanity.
"I truly believe that it is in strange lands and in unexplored situations that we discover the most about who we are, because there is nothing familiar to reinforce the old narratives we tell ourselves.”
This line, from my friend Erika Morillo’s beautiful photobook All of Them, stopped me dead. So perfectly explains why when you’re traveling you can have a clear head. You think of your life back home with the eyes of an outsider. Perhaps it’s time to go somewhere soon…
What are the narratives you tell yourself every day?
This one-minute ad made me cry. In the good way. (h/t Marissa Tarbell)
I wrote about—and ate—the world’s largest bagel and lox sandwich. It was my destiny.
The History Behind Women's Obsession with Working Out. Danielle Friedman’s fascinating deep dive into Slenderella and Jazzercise, all the way up to ClassPass. Thank god people are no longer punched in the stomach to try and lose weight.
Anyone in LA looking to take on part-time admin work in an office? Let me know and I'll give you more details!
Fiverr is hiring a Chief Digital Nomad to travel around the world and interview entrepreneurs for four months. You in? Applications due Feb. 25.
How I negotiated my first corporate writing contract. Love this. (h/t Ami Watkin)
I spent two years trying to fix the gender imbalance in my stories. Made me consider my own ratio of interviews over the years. (h/t Daryl Chen)
Lena Hall is incredible. The Tony winner is releasing a new EP each month this year as a tribute to her favorite artists, starting with Hedwig and the Angry Inch. (The Origin of Love is amazing!) Now that’s one way to combine creativity and accountability.
