When you’re passionate
Oh, hi friends!
When you’re passionate about something, you don’t stumble over your words.
Sure, you might overthink or be a little nervous. But when you’re talking about it—whether to friends or in a job interview—you’re like a faucet that’s never cinched closed. You have so much to say.
But when you’re faking it, when you’re not passionate about something? Oh, that’s when words come in fits and starts. You hedge. You don’t have answers. You feel like you’re about to be caught in a lie. The lie is…you don’t really care. (This has happened to me on no less than four job interviews.)
Think about it. When’s the last time your words came easily? What were you talking about?
More of that.
Go find more of that.
“If someone doesn't care enough to follow-up a few times, I don't want to work with them.”
This anecdote shared in a Derek Sivers post reveals how a music publicist decides to choose her new clients. If someone followed up three (!) times, they would be considered.
This makes me think about all the times I’ve never followed up on a project. I told myself it was because I didn’t want to be a burden, but also, if I’m being honest, it’s because I didn’t really care enough.
I don’t watch the reality show The Four (I swore off all singing competitions when Clay Aiken was robbed in 2003…fifteen years ago).
But I just came across Vincint singing Radiohead’s “Creep,” and, yeah…goosebumps. (He lost on the show, by the way, but what’s one gatekeeper in everything that lies ahead?)
