I would like to make more money
Oh, hi friends!
I had that thought yesterday…I would like to make more money. (Tax season thoughts! Same for you?)
Then I got specific: I would like to make more money fast and efficiently.
That’s a very different thing.
Then I got more specific: How?
So I started to think about all the money I was sitting on:
— Invoices I hadn’t sent.
— Pitches I hadn’t followed up on.
— Stories I have assigned but haven’t written yet.
— Ideas people have floated but haven’t moved forward.
— Ways to monetize existing things I do.
— The Apartment Play series I’ve yet to launch.
It wasn’t overwhelming—it was comforting.
Getting specific yields answers.
When you jump above the weeds, you see fields full of opportunity.
What are the secrets of people who love their jobs?
Here’s a hint: None of them lucked into the perfect job; instead, they created them. "By editing and nudging, they turned reasonably good jobs into ones they could love."
Really enjoyed this TED talk by Shane Lopez—found with other advice in the new column Dear TED, which I’m happy to be involved with! First question for TED: “How can I be happier at work?” TED's got answers.

Need a place to live in Brooklyn?
From my friend Josh Dzieza: I'm looking for someone to sublet my apartment from February 17 through March 31. (It could also just be for the month of March, but if you or someone you know happens to need a place for those exact dates, it's available.)
It's a large one bedroom in Bed Stuy, on the second floor, near the Kingston Throop C stop and B43 and B52 buses. There’s a good grocery store across the street and some good restaurants and bars nearby. Rent is $1700 a month including utilities and internet. Email josh.dzieza@gmail.com if you're interested or want more details.
From Kara: Here is a photo, because look at that fiddle-leaf fig!!!
