Happy birthday, Grandpa!
Oh, hi friends!
Yesterday was my Grandpa’s 96th birthday. I’m here in California to celebrate—we played Bingo, of course, and in case you’re picturing a single card with giant numbers, think again. This is a fast-moving game with all sorts of crazy designs you have to complete to win. Someone won $20,000 last night! (Not us. Next time!)
Grandpa always tips people who help him, from the golf cart driver who drops him off at the casino's front door, to the woman who brings us free water and coffee. I asked him about it, and he said, “Share your wealth…what little there is.”
Like everything else he says, I’m going to remember that one.
"Imagine this: What if everybody could just admit that they are probably wrong a lot of the time? Instead of having the last word, try listening. To be alive is to be in a constant state of ambiguity. Why pretend otherwise? Why act like children, hoping our parents will just tell us what to think? No one knows the answers, because the questions are always changing."
Stella Bugbee’s editor’s letter at The Cut is a must-read. (h/t Abby Haglage)
Welp, this Lindsey Vonn commercial got me geared up (and teared up!) for the Olympics—and for the rest of my week. Proof that no matter what happens, you can always stage a comeback.
