Itchy brains and ideas that don’t go away
Oh, hi friends!
What itches the back of your brain?
I bet it’s an idea or a project or a class you always wanted to take.
You thought about it once (or maybe 57 times) and now, now it’s an annoying little itch in the back of your brain.
Sometimes the itch gets worse. You might think, Wow, I should probably attend to that soon before the gangrene sets in…
Or sometimes the itch is barely there, like a second-day mosquito bite.
But it never completely disappears.
That kind of itch always has a purpose. It keeps bugging you for a reason.
Eventually, you have to scratch it.
“Jobs don’t hire people. People hire people. So… go meet people.”
It’s really hard to find a good job. Well, not a “good” job. A job you’re really excited about from the beginning. In my latest piece for Lifehacker, I share advice and stories on how to find your dream job without applying at soul-sucking job sites. (This applies to freelancers too, btw, and is basically how I try to operate.)
Some of my favorites include telling everyone about where you want to work, bringing value to all your interactions, cold-emailing, at least pretending to be positive, and staying on top of people’s minds. (Case in point: My editor assigned me this story after reading this newsletter!) More advice over here.
