Life advice from Harold
Oh, hi friends!
When I was home for the holidays, I went with my Grandma to McDonald’s, where a dozen or so of her friends hang out and drink coffee and chat most mornings. I’ve tried to make this a tradition and now consider some of her friends my friends. (It’s no big secret that the over-80 set is my favorite generation.)
This time around, I got to talking with Harold, who wears a cowboy hat with a little white feather stuck in the brim and a diamond stud earring pinned in the front (“So I don’t lose it,” he says). As usually happens with people who have something to share, he dropped this bit of advice:
“Enjoy life while you’re young, because the years go quickly,” he said.
I’ve been thinking about that a lot, and just wanted to share. Hope you can find a small way to enjoy life today, no matter how young you are.
“Good referrals are smarter than mediocre, distracting work. Own your work. No need to do someone else’s.”
Seth Godin strikes again.
If you can’t or don’t want to do the work, don’t. Refer someone who can. Not only is a referral good career karma, but it saves you (and your employer/client) a headache when you attempt to do something you don’t really want to do.
Since the world can’t get enough Oprah, you should read her latest book The Wisdom of Sundays: Life-Changing Insights from Super Soul Conversations. I just bought one for my Mom (hi, Mom!) for Christmas, but accidentally purchased two copies. Of course, I kept the extra one. Who could send back Opes?! I’ve been reading it before bed and it’s such a nice and calming way to leave the day behind.

Thanks, as always, for reading.
