Self-care is a dirty word
Oh, hi friends!
I want to take 60 seconds to talk about self-care.
I always thought that word sounded…weak? Silly?
But after spending this snowy weekend laid up in bed with a cold/flu/migraine/who-knows-what (like seemingly half of the people I know—get well soon everyone!), I started to think there might be something to this “self-care” thing.
I took better care of myself in the last 48 hours than I did all year. Soup, sleep, streaming The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (amazing, watch it). Basically, all the normal things I don’t normally let myself do in this frenzied merry-go-round life.
So here’s a little lesson, straight from my blanket-nest of a bed to yours: don’t wait until you get sick to take care of yourself. Do something small to make yourself feel great—right now, today.
What did you learn from directing your first film?
GRETA GERWIG:
“I learned that I could do it. I don't think you quite know until you are on the other end of something like that. You take the leap and hope there is a parachute attached. But part of learning how to direct was being on film sets as an actor and, in particular, early films I made. I knew from having been on different films that when things came up that were problems or difficulties or something went awry, that was not a deviation from the path; that was the path.”
The Hollywood Reporter yearly roundtable rarely disappoints. Gerwig, who directed Ladybird, sat down with Patty Jenkins, Angelina Jolie, and a grab-bag of other directors to discuss creative fears and makin’ movies.
Are you feeling dusty? Me too.
Put on a song. Go to a museum. Doodle a doodle. Soon you'll feel clean.
I love the Instagram @__nitch for its inspiring, surprising quotes from creatives.
