Packing your (Fri)day
Oh, hi friends!
I can do 47 things in a day, but not four. Or even one. When I have one thing to do all day...there's no way it happens.
It’s like when you have a flight to catch—suddenly you pack, shower, take out the trash, answer all your emails, finish outstanding work, download a bunch of stuff to watch on the plane, call your parents, and fit in a bunch of other tiny tasks into an even tinier timeframe.
Urgency creates structure.
Last year around this time, I had a part-time editing gig, was going to the gym five days a week (LOL WHAT?!), was rehearsing and staging a play in my apartment, and also had the same amount of freelance writing assignments.
This week I drank a lot of tea and had too much time to think.
More is more is more.
If you’re antsy, maybe you don’t have enough to do? Or maybe you could use a nap. I’m gonna try both.
“I’m not funny. What I am is brave.”
—Lucille Ball
I gasped and literally clutched my heart when the wise Abby Haglage quoted this to me yesterday. (I was in a dramatic mood.) Turns out one of the funniest women in the world was also one of the bravest. And did you know Aaron Sorkin is writing a Lucille Ball biopic? Starring…Cate Blanchett?! Knock me over and kill me dead, it’s gonna be amazing.

Bits ’n’ Baubles
I really enjoyed Tim Ferriss’s recent podcast interview with Tim Urban of Wait But Why. His newsletter was chugging along when he was putting six hours a week into it. When he started putting in 60 hours a week, well, things changed. Hmm. Listen on iTunes. Also, this post How I Handle Long Email Delays made me laugh. Too real.
Look! A tabloid story that doesn’t make me wanna rip out my eyeballs! “Brooklyn man spotted knitting on the train by Frenchie Davis sees his business boom.” Loved this.
Another trick for curing your commoner’s cold: Starbucks has a “Cold Buster” tea, which is half steamed lemonade, half water, one bag of Jade Citrus Mint Tea, one bag of Peach Tranquility Tea, some honey, and a pump of mint syrup. BuzzFeed tried it. Couldn’t hurt…right?! (Thanks to the brilliant Alison Peters for the tip.)
Do you like these daily emails? Please share with a friend!
Thanks, as always, for reading.
Love, Kara
