Friday's finish lines
Oh, hi friends!
Are you like me? Do you have a bunch of first drafts or half-attempts at projects that you pretend are done?
And when they don’t turn out exactly how you imagined—or don’t give you the success you think you deserve—you move on? You think, oh well.
It’s much easier to dig a bunch of shallow holes instead of tunneling straight to the center of the earth.
It’s so safe.
Dig. Abandon. Dig. Abandon.
And the alternative is so simple.
Dig. Dig. Dig. Dig.
Simple, but not easy.
Do your very best work.
Finish it and share it and fix it and make it the very best it can be. And who knows where you’ll find yourself.
My monologue “Cuffing Season” will be performed during a FREE night of monologues at Cherry Lane Theatre this Sunday at 7:30 p.m. If you wanna see some holiday-themed writing and performances by the very talented Eric "Brother" Cutruzzula, Diana Middleton, Susannah Jones (daughter of Malcolm!!!) and many more, please RSVP here and let’s have a grand ol’ time.

Variety’s 10 Screenwriters to Watch, including the wonderful playwright Sarah Ruhl, interviewed by our very own Alexa Harrison! Great writerly inspiration and now I’ve got 10 new films on my radar.
A Death Clock extension for Chrome! It counts down the days until your impending demise, apparently to inspire you to think about how you’re spending your time. #nochill
And as a counterpoint: How to Be Happy, according to The New York Times. Lots of nice tips here.
