Mourning your misses
Oh, hi friends!
When an opportunity falls through (as they do all...the...time...) I usually have one of two reactions:
Devastation and deep mourning.
I committed so much time and energy into getting X and now I don’t have it and it’s all over.
Clear-eyed freedom.
Three days/weeks/months ago, I never knew X existed, so why should not getting it crush me? Now I have unlimited possibilities again.
It feels much better when there’s no mourning necessary.
Wow!
91-year old woman at same company for 71 years says she'll retire when they 'carry me out in a box’
“I don’t have time to be depressed. I refuse to be depressed. I don’t have time to be sad, because I’m having too much fun being happy,” Griffing says, discussing what she thinks is the secret of her success. “You work every day. You have to think and solve problems every day. That ol’ gray matter still works.”

A(nother) New Way to Fund Creators
Patreon is taking off—it’s a membership business for your fans to sponsor your projects—and now it seems Kickstarter is getting in the game. They’re launching Drip, a similar subscription-based tool. Invite-only for now, open to others soon. I love this throwback idea of patrons helping creators on a one-to-one scale. Creates intimacy and cuts through the noise.
