All systems are (not) go
Oh, hi friends!
My friend Charlotte sent me a story yesterday about how goals are not enough to get what you want.
And this piece identified exactly what’s been plaguing me: my systems are broken.
I sprint towards a goal when a story is due. I run when I have an upcoming race. I meal prep if I remember to buy vegetables on Sunday.
But my consistent practices are all over the place. I ping pong. It's not pretty.
That’s one the biggest issues of working for yourself. Everyone says you need discipline, but discipline isn’t hard. I can write for eight hours for days on end…if I have to.
The system is the thing. Making it seamless is the trick.
Which systems make your life flow? Which are broken? Write me back if you’d like to share and I’d love to include in a future newsletter.
“Would I pay for this?” Next time you are binge watching something or screwing around on social media, ask yourself "is this something I enjoy so much I would spend money on it?" If not, find something you would.
Got this from one of Ramit Sethi’s newsletters. Gotta say, the I Will Teach You To Be Rich guy knows how to write copy.
Hank Green’s secret to productivity? Taking his projects to 80%. No further. “Getting it perfect doesn’t exist.” Because as he hits 80% over and over again, suddenly, his new 80% is way better than his previous 100% ever could be. Ya hear? In short, speed matters. (~4 mins worth watching)
