The R word
Oh, hi friends!
Do you think about retiring? (Or are you already retired?)
If so, do you have an age in mind?
And how will you spend your time?
Do you know how much money you’ll need?
Are these scary questions?
(Sorry. I’m really fun at parties!!!)
What if I told you there was a mandatory age for retirement—and it’s the exact age you are right now. What would you do? Jump for joy—or be scared of the void?
The work we do so often makes up our lives, so aren’t we lucky when that work gives us any kind of joy? In that sense, it could be sad to retire. You could be saying goodbye to something that’s served you well.
Or you could be happy to flee your boss, your grind, your 9-to-9.
Something to think about.
My friend Bairam Rizai is a star. Watch his performance on The Late Late Show in this clip, starting at 2:45. We knew him when.
Suze Orman Fishes Up to 8 Hours of Day
Oh hey, speaking of retirement, I wrote about Suze Orman’s new life as a retiree! She told me she once worked 15 hours a day, seven days a week, for 15 years. Uhhh…sounds like someone needed a break.
For my cover story for MONEY, I visited her private island in the Bahamas to see how she’s spending life after her TV show. Lotta fishing.
Sidenote: I also came back with a completely revamped attitude about money—and followed it up with my most lucrative month of freelancing in my five-year solo career. Somehow there’s a cause and effect there?! Let's call it the #SuzeSmackdown. Here’s the full story!
