Details, shmetails
Oh, hi friends!
I sit at my desk around eight hours every day and spend most of those hours looking out the window at a giant church across the street. If I turn to the left I can see people walking to and from Atlantic Terminal, the busiest subway station in Brooklyn. Buildings, cars, people. Big things.
But when I’m not constantly thinking about the next email or my next deadline, I see specifics. Pigeons on the church roof, a single lightbulb shining on the second floor, the sticker on the guitar case carried by the man walking to the subway.
Those are the moments I like most. When I finally understand beauty really is in the details.
“The cavalry isn’t coming.”
I really love this speech by Mark Duplass, who urges that we should make and distribute our own creative work instead of waiting for someone to rescue us.
Job! Job! Job!
