Punctuation.
Oh, hi friends!
I’m not talking about punctuation, like, commas and exclamation marks. Punctuation in the sense that most things could benefit more from a period than an ellipses.
I think it’s why to-do lists feel so good. Crossing something off is a punctuation. BOOM. Done.
A challenging work project with an end date? You reach it and BOOM. Done.
Upcoming race or swim or bike ride? Finish line and BOOM. Done.
When you don't have punctuation, when what you’re working on just keeps snaking along, when you can’t see the end of things, sorta like the end of this sentence, well, then, sometimes that doesn’t allow you the permission to start something new.
Every lingering unfinished task takes up precious brainspace. Reclaim it! How can you punctuate something today?
“Being your own person is mostly about trying to dig yourself out of the cycle of negativity that affects us all. If you’re not sure how to start the process, call your best friend—or better yet, just ask yourself.”
We all say things to ourselves that we would never say to our friends (for fear of getting slapped!). I liked this story by Danielle Henderson about how to be a friend to yourself. Sidenote: The piece is on Shondaland, a new site founded by Shonda Rhimes, who's apparently skilled at everything!
I Want This Now Please Thanks
