*Hiccup* and hello
Oh, hi friends!
I woke up yesterday and my WiFi was down. The entire neighborhood was having trouble. The screams reverberated for miles.
So I couldn’t send out this newsletter, and it threw my morning into a tizzy because I had a call scheduled and wouldn’t be able to use Skype, which I’ve been relying on since my phone keeps dropping calls. (Nothing is worse to hear during an interview than “Can you hear me? I can’t hear you. Hello?” Your heart stops.)
Blah blah blah technological failures, but the point is that there was no time to overthink—I could only adapt.
Of course, the morning turned out fine, and not being distracted by the Internet allowed me to focus on my questions and even run some errands before 9 a.m.
Annoying little hiccups can be revealing. They can snap you out of your routines and propel you to find new solutions. So when you’re confronted with a little hiccup this weekend, I hope you’re amazed by how you eventually solve it.
"Think about the things people frequently compliment you on—those may be your strengths."
From The Start-Up of You by Reid Hoffman, founder of LinkedIn. What’s the last great compliment you received?
A Lovely Little Hodgepodge
Last weekend I saw the wonderful play A Piece of My Heart produced by and starring two of my very talented friends Randa and Chelsea. This play’s about women who served in the Vietnam War—it’s engrossing, heartbreaking, and enlightening. Go here for tickets, the show runs through September 30!
Cool idea. Fresh mixer ingredients for cocktails—in a slick canister to boot. (h/t brother)
Looking forward to listening to this podcast about the best interviewers in the business.
A bunch of Game of Thrones fans ran an ultra marathon while watching the entire TV series playing on the back of a truck. Not sure if I’m amazed or horrified. (h/t Selina Zhong)
Learning how to run a movie set. This is gold. (“Be kind” is one takeaway.)
